Hong Kong where to get good coffee latte cafe

Whenever I need a perk me up... Rabbit hole is one of my top choices.

As it's name suggest, it's tucked away in wanchai (near admiralty). It's only for those in the know.

A quiet, chill out cafe.

Once u get in, it's likely that u will fall hook, line and sinker. You'd be a convert. Trust me.

Here's the menu for the curious.

A latte is about hkd35? Thereabouts.

They do serve lunch too. Sandwiches and all. Should try it one day.

Looks good.

Anyway here's the beans that we are recommending for today.

Hong Kong delicious Chinese Xiao long bao at shanghai Lao Lao modern setting and is not ding tai fung

Where can you eat Xiao long bao in a nice ambience at a reasonable price?

I dare say the Xiao long bao here is as good or even better than ding tai fung!
(I probably should be a bit more patriotic since ding tai fung is under Singapore's bread talk. But it's my stomach and pocket that we are talking about here.) so I shall remain objective.

Check out the front of the restaurant.
Looks impressive? Read on.

Looks atas, but at a good price. The total bill came up less than what we usually chalk up in ding tai fung.

Pic of the modern clean lines and nice brown furniture setting.

And of course the main star! I didn't count the number of pleats on the Xiao long bao. Was too busy tucking in. Tru sell the spicy noodles, very much like crystal jade!

Be careful when eating. Don't waste the juice! (I had to caution u as I accidentally poked it. Much to the ire of C!)

Prawns with tea leaves anyone?

The rest of our dishes...
Lovely ma po toufu to pour over rice.

U know the "zup" tastes so good to "lum" over your rice? (Wonder if anyone understood my splatter of.. Is that dialect or singlish?)

The bill?

Barely a dent at hkd307! That's like sgd$50? No further charges.

For a meal like this, it will typically cost sgd$70, due to all the 10% and 7% taxes!

Here's the receipt to help u in your order!

Hong Kong : dao heung serves delectable dim sum in wanchai

This is where the locals enjoy coming for good and affordable dim sum, in a nice ambience to boot! It's located above lei garden at CNT tower. Address below.

They have a few branches. I will be covering the one in wan chai today. It's in between wan chai and causeway bay, but wan chai station will still be most convenient. It's about a 12mins walk from the wan chai mtr station.

Phone: 2838-3097
Tao Heung, 2/F, CNT Tower, 338 Hennessy Rd., Wan Chai, Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Nice walk up one floor to whet your appetite.

The ambience. A busy and chatty environment.

Must take the xo sauce. It's to die for.

The xo carrot cake and fabulous Siew Mai with big juicy succulent prawn on top of each Siew Mai.

The soup broth is also thick and sedap! Comes with dumplings and mushroom.

An important tip. If you're here for tea time, 2+pm will be a good time. Don't wait till 3.30pm! We whizzed in late at 3+pm. I thought we were very smart since usually there's a long queue and we had to wait outside with a machine issued queue number. The machine typically asks if you are ok with sharing table. Of course the queue would move faster if you share table. It's a very common thing to share table with strangers while dining.

Anyway, once we got our seat, we happily ordered. Was happy to see durian Liu sha bao too. Usually we only get the yellow custard kind yea. How innovative. So affordable too.

Then we got a shock when the waitress informed us that they have to close their cashier and kitchen has stopped at 4pm. So, no more food. Was only at 50% capacity. So sad, since the food was so good.

Oh well, yet another reason to go back then.

Lesson learnt.

Singapore : what to eat for traditional tea time #food #teatime

Spot this?

Drink this! The traditional tea with milk and coffee with milk.

Locals call it Teh for milk tea and kopi for coffee with milk.

If you would like less sugar, say teh Siu dai.

It's often been compared to Australian dairy for the wining spot of yummy dun nai. Personally I prefer yee shun better!

Now close your eyes and prepare yourself for the world's best melt in your mouth, soft like toufu dun nai.

Be transported to Lala land.

It's not cheap at hkd30 (about sgd$5) but well worth the treat!

I ordered the one with ginger.

I slurped it all up and well, scalded my tongue in exchange for the gluttony!

Be careful, it's hot!

Lovely rows and rows of desert to satisfy hungry shoppers @ causeway bay. They serve simple Hk treats like sandwiches and chicken wing as well.

A simple but delightful treat! :)

I love you dun nai (炖奶). Just found this receipe to make online. Is it fattening? Oops, I think so!

Ingredients:
3/4 cup cream
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon ginger, sliced thinly

¾ cup milk
2 egg whites

Method:
Bring cream, sugar and ginger to a boil, stirring gently.
Remove from heat and stir in milk till just lukewarm – about 50 degrees Celsius to 55 degrees Celsius.
Whisk in the egg whites vigorously.
Strain into 4 2 ounce ramekins.
 Steam for 20-24 minutes.
It will be very jiggly.
Either eat warm or chill and serve cold (it’s slightly firmer once chilled).

Hong Kong : where to eat good organic food gluten free salad and cafe (closed)

Update July: lokali has shut its doors. Sad!

Today we are not going to the tavern at stone nullah lane. Instead, I would like to take this chance to introduce you an excellent organic place along the same lane. It's a new kid on the block-- called okali... Well, sounds like locally.

I will do a brief intro on the place and food, before I go into how to get there, after whetting your appetite.

And the recent writeup.

And the salad (pick 3 dishes for hkd58).
Well, pretty reasonable and greenhouse greens. Good quality food, worth it's price.

You can have just 1 dish for hkd38. Add on for drinks like an organic coffee is hkd20. Latte is hkd30. Here's a pic of the nicely decorated cafe.

Very pleasing to the eye decor.

Check out those on the shelves! They are snacks like to die for chocolate and all.

Yes, organic snacks too.

Anyway here's what I ordered for today. I used to frequent passion cafe at Amoy street, but am searching for a new haunt to get my greens. Reason being passion cafe doesn't change it's menu. Same old, same old, day in and out.

Isn't this grains awesome?

So do checkout lokali the next time. Really awesome good food. Gets my vote!

Now, to get here, just follow the blue house (same lane) and it's opposite he bright red st James settlement (that's a old folks home equivalent I think, not our club in Sg)

So quaint, I like.

And of course the tavern is right on the foot of the lane...

Hong Kong : where to eat good and affordable dim sum wing Wah restaurant in Hk

Wanted to go to the famous joy hing restaurant at henessey road, to satisfy the carnivore in C.

However, the place was closed on sun afternoon. Thus, we walked into the nearby restaurant which had some awards displayed. Truth be said, we had no idea where we had walked into.

Don't worry, it's not a 黑店! Quite the contrary, the place was a packed and brightly lit restaurant and the prices were ultra reasonable! It was wing Wah's restaurant, or most of us would know of its bakery.

Wing Wah Restaurant 榮華酒樓
English Address : 254-268 Lockhart Rd, 1 Stewart Rd, Wan Chai

The food is of pretty high standards at a good price too. Those who know me, will know I'm a value eater, but don't take my word for it.

Check out the amazing pics below! If you notice, the Hk dim sum shops generally categorize their dim sum (much like sushi red, green, yellow plates concept). They usually go by small, medium, large and special dishes concept.

I highlighted this just in case some might think that the numbers below the food refers to the price. It's not! So don't be scared.

Keep calm and eat on!

And we happily ordered away...

Here's our amazing food.

The translucent silky maiden ha gao! Lots of prawns in this little package!

The four treasures... Abundant fish maw, mushroom, chicken and crab meat. Lots of fish maw though.

Before the food got attacked!

Apologies for the half eaten 奶黃馬來糕,  as C's fingers acted really fast! It's really very yummy, one of the best that I've tried.

Certainly deserves a special mention.

I would call this my golden royale from now on!

Juicy Siew Mai... C's perennial favourite!

And we should have ordered after 2pm! Coz there were really cheap specials!

Hkd13 per dish only! :)

And the close up of the hkd13 specials after 2pm!

Here's the ambience of the place.

After eating our fill (7 "dishes") and a pot of pu er Chinese tea,  the bill amounted to HKD 180. That's like sgd$30. Average out about sgd$4 per dish in a restaurant.
This price has the 10% service charge included as well.

I don't think you will ever get a nice aircon restaurant with good quality for such a price as this!

Nearest mtr station: wan chai
